Sunday Newsflashes
The Jackrabbit Program is for 5 to 12 year olds; the Bunnyrabbit Program is for 4-5 year olds.
The Jackrabbit Program is a parent-run (volunteer) cross country ski program for children ages 4 - 12. The participants
learn skiing skills through games and activities on skis with their friends. Classes are offered on Saturday morning and
Sunday afternoon.
Ski lessons for Jackrabbit levels 3, 4 and 5 begin the weekend of January 2-3, 2010.
Ski lessons for Bunnyrabbits and Jackrabbit levels 1 and 2 begin the weekend of January 9-10, 2010.
The last lesson for all levels is at the Jamboree on February 28th, 2009. Both Saturday and Sunday groups are invited to attend on
the same day for a wind-up event full of fun and games.
Ski lessons will proceed on the weekend of the Gatineau Loppett.
Times
Saturday Jackrabbits is at 10:30am-12:30 noon. Sunday lessons start at 1pm sharp. Please arrive 10 minutes early! Please arrive on
time to pick up your child at the end of the session.
Bunnyrabbit classes are 1hr, Jackrabbit Level 1 classes are 1 1/2hrs and all other classes are 2hrs. More info about the Jackrabbit
program can be found at SFQ or Cross Country Canada.
Volunteers
The Jackrabbit program always requires more volunteers and Jackrabbit leaders; please indicate that you are interested on the
registration form. Parents are normally required to accompany their childs class and to provide a nut-free snack and drinks
for all the children to share once during the season.
This year we are looking for a Jackrabbit Director, one or two Saturday and Sunday on-site coordinators, a Special Events Coordinator,
people to assist with special events, as well as Jackrabbit and Bunnyrabbit leaders and assistant leaders.
Registration & Fees
Registration is now
open. Please go to the
Clubhouse
to register.
Bunnyrabbit program is $65 per child.
Jackrabbit program is $75 per child.
Please note: every year, the Chelsea Nordiq Jackrabbit and Bunnyrabbit programs have more subscribers than spots available. In addition,
once registration opens the spots fill up very quickly. This year, registration priority will be assigned as follows:
- first, families in which one or more parent volunteers to be a group leader or committee member;
- second, date of registration.
Please indicate in which level to register your child. Once you register, you will be sent a confirmation with follow-up questions.
If your child has not been part of the Jackrabbit program or if you are unsure,
please indicate in your response to the follow-up questions how long s/he has been skiing and provide a brief description of his or her skills to help us place your
child in the right group. This is also your opportunity to indicate if your child should be placed in a group with a particular friend.
Language of instruction
Chelsea Nordiq Jackrabbits makes every effort to offer classes in both English and French, but this is limited by the language
skills of our volunteer Leaders and Assistant Leaders. Please indicate on the registration each language that your child speaks and
understands well enough to participate in a class in that language. We often have too few francophone Leaders for the number of
children seeking French instruction, so we cannot guarantee that classes will be offered in both English and French at all levels.
Please be careful not to overestimate your childs skill level in their second language as it is frustrating for a child who cannot fully understand their Leaders guidance.
Logistics
The central meeting point for the Bunnyrabbit and Jackrabbit program will be determined in fall 2009.
A portable toilet will be available. Please encourage your little ones to drop by before the start of the lesson!
Program cancellation policy due to weather: If the projected temperature for 10:30 am (on Saturday) or 1:00 pm (on Sunday) is
colder than 15° C (before wind chill), then we will cancel Bunnyrabbit and Jackrabbit Level 1 and 2 classes. Jackrabbit levels 3
and 4 may proceed at the leaders discretion until the temperature reaches 20° C (before wind chill). In addition, the
program will be cancelled for all groups if the trails are dangerous due to hardening from freezing rain or if there is no snow.
Please note: any cancellations will be posted in the
Cluhouse on the
Jackrabbit Newsflash and all families affected will be contacted.
Refund Policy
As per club policy, the $50 family fee is non-refundable. For cancellations received up to November 25th, 100% of the
program fee will be refunded. For cancellations received after November 25th 50% of the program will be refunded.
Cancellations received after the first class will receive no refund.
Equipment & Clothing
Information about the appropriate equipment and clothing for each level is posted in the
Cluhouse.
